Inverurie Locos 2 Deveronvale 0

Friday night football returned to Harlaw Park on Friday night with a very healthy crowd of around 600 proving once again it's a great opportunity to attrace supporters and a few neutrals along the way Locos were looking to build on their fine three goal margin of victory without conceding and boss Neil Cooper now with a very strong squad at his disposal for the final run in Inverurie loon Robbie Mutch was making his debut between the sticks for the Vale, the former Don on loan to Steve Dolan's team until the end of the season Andy Hunter was first to pose a threat but found the Vale defensive unit up to the challenge in blocking his drive Both sides lost key players to injury, Harry Noble of the visitors team replaced by former Loco Kyle Willox and young Andy Watt pulling up, giving the opportunity to veteran Stuart Duff to return to the side and look to stamp his authority in the engine room Chris Angus had an attempt with a bicycle kick but it failed leaving Mutch to gather the ball untroubled However the deadlock was broken in spectacular style in the 26th minute, a free kick awarded just outside the box near the corner of the 18 yard line. Up stepped No 4 the midfield dynamo to curl the ball over the wall and high into the roof of the net. The late great Gordon Banks would have struggled to keep this one out, it was a near identikit of David Beckham's set piece for England against Greece in 2001 to qualify his country for the 2002 World Cup.Well little Michie was not for celebrating quietly, he embarked on a sensational somersault in the mould of Stuart McKay Neil Gauld was not keen on being upstaged and he set about adding to the tally but found little strength on a shot and Mutch had another comfortable save But Gauldy made it 2 0 into injury time of the half, latching on to a great diagonal pass from Angus before cutting in from the right and driving low into the corner with his left foot The young Vale side looked to make a real game of it in the second half, captain Michael Dunn heading a corner narrowly over the top while top scorer Robert Scott sent a volley wide However Locos were playing with great fluency, Angus, Hunter and Gauld constantly keeping the Banffers on their tors and captain marvel Neil McLean ax ever full of running A third goal would have put icing on the cake of the victory and on 78 minutes it was the unlikely figure of Ryan Broadhurst popping up to strike a right foot shot of the inside of the right post of Mutch A comfortable three points taking Locos above newly crowned Aberdeenshire Shield winners Formartine United into fourth place for less than a day. It's the race for third place which is gradually starting to brew up, Formartine, Fraserburgh and Forres all won their games against Keith Rothes and Huntly respectively. Like Locos none of the in form teams conceded a goal so it's all to play for in the weeks ahead Locos A Reid T Reid Mitchell Michie(McCabe) Souter Broadhurst Hunter McLean Gauld(Bolton ) Angus Watt(Duff)
