Work still to do but Locos on the cusp of their first ever County crown.
It was a perfect night for football, no wind, moderate temperatures & a good crowd inside this atmospheric old ground. Carnie had a shot repelled by Cook, with Marr shooting wide at the other end. Graeme Cochrane had a great chance to break the deadlock on nine minutes but his drive from twenty yards was too high. Thomas Reid then shot wide after wonderful interplay, a theme this energetic young group were to return to time after time, so many neat touches & tidy passes. Twenty one minutes & that man BOLTON had Locos in front. Keeper Ellis had performed a wee miracle to deny Watt on the angle & Josh noshed on the rebound. Three minutes later & big Greig COWIE with a close range finish after yet more great Locos approach play. Add another three minutes & 3-0! Blimey O’Reilly, a whipped direct free kick from Andy YOUNGSON doing the damage. First teamer Jordan Brown shot into the carcass of Cook before being shown a yellow for more dissent. The same player then forced Cook into beating a shot down into the turf & away to safety. HT 3-0. It was business as usual for Locos with Marr having an effort deflected behind, Strachan shooting wide & Locos bossing proceedings. Referee Matheson was perhaps unsighted as Campbell Marr was wiped out by a combination of the Cove goalie & centre half inside the box but no penalty was given. The reprieve was capitalised on by Cove with BROWN taking a great first touch, swivel & shot into the Locos net. Cove discipline could have been better & Thomson was yellowed for a very late trip on Strachan. A boost for Locos next with Kyle Gordon making a welcome comeback. Excellent byline wizardy by the sub set up MARR to get the goal his play had more than merited. Leave your best to last they say & crivvens didn’t these young Railwaymen just! Andy YOUNGSON was the best player afield, & he weaved, bobbed, slalomed, pivoted & finished with a searing drive into the far side of the onion bag. Whoosh, wallop, start the car. FT 5-1.
