The team was unchanged from Tuesday. Referee for this one was Gordon Seago. Locos won a corner right from the off before Dom Edwards was nearly clean through for the home side. Eight minutes in & 1-0 to Inverurie. Broadhurst slipped a wonderful ball down the left flank for Angus who whipped in a neat cross for GAULD to head home with aplomb. Ryan MacLeod was to go & save Jags from a terrible beating & the debutant goalie foiled Greg Mitchell with a top stop. Gauld flashed a header wide & Mitchell had a header go wide before Jags had several players warned about dissent. Leyden was fouled on the edge of the box with the resultant free kick, taken by McCabe, deflected wide. Reid repelled a McShane shot then foiled Mochan with a brilliant save. Andy blootered into the post but was able to continue after having his head bandaged. It’s understood the goalpost should eventually make a full recovery too! Locos were creating plenty but couldn’t find goal number two. Innes was yellowed for a crude challenge on Gauld. HT 1-0 Locos. Mitchell had a shot deflected over from close in but it was missed & a goalkick given. Edwards sent in a smashing swerving shot that Reid handled well. MacLeod tipped an Angus drive onto his left post with Mitchell inches from converting the rebound. Locos were still creating chance upon chance without stretching their lead. However that second goal came with twenty minutes left. Stuart DUFF took a direct free kick sixty yards from goal & only went & smashed it home. A marvellous moment of individual magic. The Jags keeper was excellent in this match & it is cruel that he was lobbed from a prestigious distance, but it was an immense piece of quick thinking & perfect execution from Stuart. Scott Lisle thundered in a low drive that Reid held. Angus & Souter had attempts upon goal blocked then Leyden & Angus again went close. As the game draw to a close Joe MCCABE picked the ball up thirty five yards from goal & set out on a powerful slalom through the blue jerseys, over the despairing tackles & concluding with a low calm finish into the net. This sort of incisive direct play is something the powerful young man should be doing more often. Fraser & McCabe engaged in a somewhat daft & pointless outbreak of handbags that saw the referee issue yellow cards. This match official certainly made every attempt to let play flow, minimising whistle activity & letting the match breathe. FT 3-0 to Inverurie. Locos still not sparking off every plug but the focus & the attitude were far better. Champions Cove Rangers come calling on Wednesday at Harlaw, ko 8pm, before a trip to Kynoch Park on Saturday, ko 3pm. This will be a poignant trip to Keith, the first since the sad passing of Sandy Stables.
