The final pre-season match of the summer for the Locos saw Paul Sheerin take his young, high energy full-time Dons XI to a rain soaked Harlaw Park on Monday night. Gaffer Cooper started with very much a first team selection, with Stuart Duff, banned for the opener at Buckie Thistle, on the bench. After the early sparring Aberdeen found themselves ahead on five minutes. A whipped corner should have been cleared with ease but the unlucky Joe McCabe saw the ball fly off his boot & behind Andy Reid. Harrington then smashed his shot flush against the left post before Reid had to produced a top stop to deny Dangana. Chris Angus lost his marker but his low effort was smothered by Craddock. Keeper Reid was busy fielding efforts from Brown, MacKenzie & McLellan. The impressive Bruce ANDERSON was played in by a series of neat touches & dinked a tidy finish over Reid for 2-0 on twenty one minutes. The same player was then denied by a brave Reid save. A Souter attempt to play the ball wide was skewed back to Reid saw the referee consider it to be a back pass. Mitchell displayed the heart of a large lion to stand up to the subsequent rasping effort. Six minutes ahead of the break saw the Dons go three up. The speedy DANGANA was set free & struck the ball hard & true to find the bottom right corner. HT 0-3. The park was full of Colony Park 2010 kids at half time, entertaining the crowd of 505 with 4x4 mini matches. Wonderful stuff on a wet Monday night! Three minutes after the restart Locos were back in this challenge match & what a shocking moment for keeper Craddock. A routine cross was dropped by the goalie & Neil GAULD doesn’t stand on ceremony when such opportunities arrive. Joe McCabe was impressing again & after winning two 50/50 challenges on the spin, played Gauld in who forced Craddock into a redeeming save. The Railwaymen were having a fantastic second period & Leyden was rampant, forcing Roscoe to trip the tricky wideman as he bore down on goal. Craddock was making up for his nightmare moment with fine saves from Leyden & Gauld. Inverurie then had a solid penalty appeal ignored as a Rennie header certainly looked like it was handled on the line. Gauld, Rennie, Duff & McLean all had attempts upon goal with a second Locos goal looking inevitable. Alas when it did arrive it was too late, but nevertheless the thumping unstoppable Mark SOUTER header was a suitable high to conclude this very worthwhile & really enjoyable friendly. Locos head to Buckie Thistle on Saturday for the SHFL kick off then host Fraserburgh in an Irn Bru Cup Prelim tie on Weds Aug 1.
