Hall Russells deservedly left Harlaw Park on Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over a Locos side who toiled for periods of the match. Harlaw Park was enjoying some much needed rainfall at kick off time, with groundsman Arthur Robertson suitably pleased. Gauld, Leyden & McCabe all had efforts in then first five minutes without stretching the visiting goalie. Charlesworth sent in two dangerous crosses but neither found any finishing touches. Inverurie had been on the end of several hugely contentious goal-line bloopers last season & hopefully the Chris Angus attempt being scooped back into play wasn’t a sign of more brouhaha to come once the competitive action commences. Angus went down hurt & in some discomfort but was able to continue after treatment. The same player drive a yard wide soon after. Joe McCabe was looking strong & forced his way forward but again the final product for the Raiklwaymen was poor. Elliot MacDonald forced Morgan Cook into a brilliant low save before Jordan LEYDEN made it 1-0 with the final touch of the first period. The wide man killed the ball then swept a sweet hit just inside the left stick of keeper Carroll. Halls were level five minutes into the second period. Gordon HARDIE was afforded the freedon of the Garioch & easily stroked his shot past the unprotected Cook. Greg Mitchell curled an excellent first time effort off the inside of the post then Cook again was the hero with a top block from Hardie. Sub keeper Otto made a fine diving stop from Gauld before Arrowsmith & Hardie passed up chances to take the lead. Sub Connor WOOD won this friendly for the visitors with a goal on sixty four minutes. Locos were again struggling at the back & Cook again had no chance. Russell was yellowed for Hall Russell after a wild challenge on a suitably enraged Chris Herd. Neil Gauld then had a hook shot return into play from the face of the bar. An Angus diving header & a dinked chip from Mitchell were the last moments of note with Halls running out 2-1 winners.
