Community Day is Fast Approaching

Local groups team up to host annual Community Day On the 24th March 2018, the Garioch Sports Centre, Inverurie Loco Works FC and Aberdeen FC Community Trust will host the annual Inverurie Community Day at Harlaw Park. The Community Day raises awareness of the ‘Garioch Partnership’ that has grown from strength to strength over the past two years and has seen over 2,500 people ranging from 3-90+ years old participate in a variety of activities. Since its inception in 2016, the partnership has organised a number of community activities, including a Walking for Wellness group with Fitbit device trackers, the first Over 65s sport and social activities event - the ‘Garioch Games’, Walking Football, Syrian refugee football sessions, Healthy Lifestyle Change programme ‘Football Fans in Training’ and many more. This will continue to grow as the partnership continues to go from strength to strength. The partnership’s purpose is to engage with the harder to reach people within the Garioch community and to help members of the community feel more socially connected to others. The Garioch Sports Centre ‘Garioch Goes Green project’ will also provide valuable support to the community day. The Goes Green project aims to educate the community on how making small changes to their habits within the home can help them to save energy. The Garioch Goes Green project have provided meter-reading forms to Garioch primary schools. School pupils and parents have been asked to record meter readings over a two-week period and make some behavioural changes during the second week so that they can see the difference for themselves. The form is also available to download on the Garioch Sports Centre homepage. Participants should follow the instructions on the form and record meter readings, then return completed forms to schools or to Garioch Sports Centre by Friday 16th March. Garioch Sports Centre will announce the winners on their Facebook page on Monday 19th March. Every Garioch primary school pupil will get complimentary tickets for one adult and one child for the match on Saturday 24th March. So all pupils will get to enjoy a piece of the action even if they don’t win the prize. One boy and one girl winner will be drawn from the forms returned. They’ll each win: • A full Locos kit • Complimentary match tickets for Inverurie Locos v Nairn County x 4 (stand seats) • Meet the players and Harlaw the Bear • Stadium tour • A signed Inverurie Loco Works FC football Activities at the Community Day include: • Free access to primary school children (1 x child ticket and 1 x adult ticket), including entry to the match • Face painting • Live music • Charity stalls • ½ time activities (4v4 football matches with Colony Park Community Club players) • Mascot Race (Garioch/Harlaw/Donny the Sheep)  • Walking Football Festival • Easter Egg Giveaway  • Plus much more Stephen Boddie of Aberdeen FC Community Trust said ‘Last year’s event was a huge success and we’re excited to have planned an even bigger and better event for this year. We love working with the local schools and getting them excited about sport, as well as raising awareness of topical issues like climate change. We’ve planned lots of fantastic activities and we can’t wait for the community to get involved. Inverurie Locos are having a tremendous SHFL campaign, still pushing for a top two finish, so it promises to be an exciting day all round.’
